Since I’ve started sharing my workflow and tips, I get asked a lot of questions about how I work with color. Some of them seem to be preventing many of you from even starting a digital illustration. So this week, I’m sharing some tips, on how I deal with color in a very simple way that will most likely help you not only to understand color, but to leave those limitations behind when creating artwork.

Getting the Colors Just Right

This is what I get asked a lot about

It’s not the first time (and probably not the last one either) when I talk about color accuracy in digital work and print. CMYK or RGB? Does it really matter or makes such a difference? How do I make sure the colors of my artwork look great always and everywhere, on social media, for my client’s screen, as art prints, and in my portfolio?

In my latest YouTube video, I talk exactly about this. I will show you a bit of my workflow as well to show you what tools I use to color-proof my work.

It’s also a small video spoiler, but one of the tools I use is my BenQ Designer Monitor. We (my husband, who edits my Youtube videos, and myself) have been using a BenQ monitor to color-proof important work for about 3 years now. It has 99% color accuracy and comes with a color calibration certificate.

So how about another indie game?

Since my last burn out I don’t get tired of repeating it – to be productive, creative and effective, we need the time off! This is especially important in case of freelancers. There are no bosses more demanding and stricter than us. How often do you feel guilty for taking some time for yourself? Or because you feel you haven’t been as productive as planned or finished work for a day at 5pm instead of 10pm?

So here I come with yet one more reminder that having a rest is good and needed for our creativity and imagination to thrive.

So how about another indie game?

How does a mix between cute and creepy sound? The cult of the Lamb is the latest game I played and a very recent release. Imagine you are an adorable, but possessed Lamb that becomes… a cult leader. Your goal is to build a loyal flock of followers, keep them fed, happy, and devoted by showing them your greatness. Your followers can also be assigned different tasks around the village, and you can give them gifts, put them to prison or even marry them

There are four mysterious regions for you to explore, and defeat the non-believers and mysterious creatures you come across in your crusades. You can collect weapons and resources required to build new structures, prepare new meals, perform dark rituals and recruit more and more followers. Who, by the way, is also very sweet.

The game is available for Mac/Windows, Nintendo Switch, Play Station, and Xbox.

The most famous art challenge is getting closer. Who’s in?

I am! Even though I have never completed Inktober before. I started and completed a few first prompts a few times before but never went all the way through with it, and this year I would like to give it a go! It would be great to see you join in, too, for some more motivation.

For now I’m thinking of going with the traditional approach of black and white work, with a main character appearing across all the prompts. I’ll be also documenting the whole process as my ultimate goal is to make a super cool YouTube video about the whole experience. Hope you like the idea!
